Suffolk Sheep...Its all black and white

My love for Suffolk sheep began when I was four and Carol Hicks showed a market lamb.  Now Carol was a few years older than I and I thought she hung the moon.  I begged for almost five years to get a lamb.  I was told no more than a screaming child in Walmart.  My mom finally gave in after years of begging.  We started with one suffolk cross market lamb.  I walked that lamb everyday.  I didn't win that year however I did caught the bug.  The next year my flock began to develop.  It started with a few ewes purchased from Sheepy Hollow Farm in Morganton, NC.  Soon we had a ram and more sheep than we knew what to do with.  I was in heaven.

Fast forward almost 20 years nows.  We raise purebred Suffolk sheep and a few crossbreeds.  For years we wanted to raise the big beautiful sheep that win NAILE however we realized that those sheep don't perform well in the Southeast.  We have cut our flock size drastically and decided to focus on performance Suffolks that are just the right size and easy to maintain on grass with supplemental grain in the winter (or summer drought).  Our flock is based on medium framed ewes that carry solid muscling down their tops and into their rump.  They don't rail carcasses high in fat.  We have two Suffolk rams one is a Sponaugle ram out of the BarNone and the other is a Gigabyte son from the Auville family.  Both are amazing sound rams with lots of potential.

In 2008 we participated in the Western Illinois Ram Test.  Click the click for the results of our rams compared to the average.
